An interesting webinar from Ovum identifies the potential size of the Internet of Things (IoT) opportunity and the likely roles for service providers. It highlights key technologies which will shape the IoT landscape and the practical challenges organisations face when it comes to building IoT networks.
Compiled by Jamie Moss, senior analyst in consumer technology and IoT and Gary Barnett, chief analyst software, both from Ovum, the webinar – The Internet of Things: Understanding the evolving value chain – looks at what makes up the IoT, market participant types, how to dimension the IoT and the IoT market opportunity, including the M2M (Machine to Machine) core.
SmartIPX Chief Executive Officer Paul Tindley said there needed to be a ‘pinch of salt’ on some of the market shaping numbers predictions simply because value chain elements still applied both in the IoT and in the mobile data space.
“What is clear though, is the consumerisation technology adoption trend is going to start to force enterprises to deliver on the access/enable storyboard or just get swept behind,” he added.
